Things to know hiking to Nevada Falls

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

Thick Girls guide to this journey

Hiking to Nevada falls is not an easy feat, but I was determined to be inspired by the views and take photos. It's important to me to connect with my subject matter, and nothing brings you close to nature than being humbled by an uphill climb just to be a fraction closer to the peaks. Oh, and do it when everyone is surprised a heavy girl made it this far.

The Nevada Falls Hike Must Haves

• All day • The Right Gear • Snacks • Water • Determination

First off, do you really need ALL Day? Not necessarily. When I went hiking with my family it was busy we we had to walk about a mile from the car to the trail head. We took the much larger, but less stairs John Muir Trails route. So from our car to the top and back, it took most of the day. The rest of the day was being exhausted from hiking 10ish miles out of shape The Right gear, snacks and water really are a no brainer. The trails tell you how much water you should have and I personally like to bring more snacks than I think I will eat because this big beautiful body needs fuel. As for gear, a great pair of hiking boots are a must, but for this trail you NEED hiking poles. Just get some and thank me later.

As for determination, I found the hike very difficult, and I would have never made it without the drive.

The Nevada Falls Hike Nice to Haves

• Leggings with Side Pockets • Hiking Back Pack • Little Misting Ferries that fan you the entire hike

I hike for the view and take lots of photos. So the side pockets were a great spot for easy access to my phone for quick photos. I hike with a large nikon camera, but when I on a tough hike sometimes I just don't have the energy to get it out. Now when it comes to hiking not just an ordinary backpack is a great idea. Especially if you're a larger human like myself, the chest and wast straps help distribute the weight more evenly. The last bullet I'm sure speaks for itself. Its hot making that hike.

The Nevada Falls Hike Wish I Had

• A Zipline from the top

Once I got to the top it was a short lived celebration, as the realization that I would need to hike that entire way back to the car was the most deflating feeling in the world. So Yea, a zipline would have been nice.

I appreciate you!
